Chameleon Antenna is proud to present an exciting new product. Small transmitting loops, otherwise known as HF magnetic loop antennas, have been used for years in the military, diplomatic and shipboard HF communication links – all of which require robust and dependable general coverage radio communication.

These tiny antennas are now easy-to-acquire for amateur radio use. Compared to short vertical whips tuned against earth or a full-sized vertical antenna, the real advantage of the small loop is its independence from ground plane and earth; making it an ideal option for those with limited space or portability requirements.

By comparison, there’s no need for the lower part of a loop to be more than a loop diameter above ground, making it manageable to install in limited places. There is no significant enhancement in sky wave propagation if a small loop is installed high; all that really matters is that it has adequate clearing from close-by objects and points towards the wanted radiation direction.

The CHA F-LOOP 3.0 underwent rigorous field trials, which confirmed that it was only marginally weaker in both transmitting and receiving than an outdoor full size quarter wave vertical antenna, despite its relatively small size of less than three feet in diameter and frequency range of between 3.5-29.7 MHz (80-10 meter ham bands). Truly impressive!

The magnetic loop stands apart from other antennas, as it focuses on the magnetic half of the radio wave (H field), instead of the electric component (E field). It also boasts a resonant frequency of around 17KHz on 40 meters, thus blocking out interference from beyond the specific band.

The crimp PL-259 connectors that we’re using with all our RG-58 are UHF-7604L connectors from PAN-PACIFIC. They’re the best and the leader in the industry.

  • There is no need for soldering; therefore, installation time is reduced.
  • It takes an experienced technician about 15 seconds to install a crimp-crimp connector, thereby greatly reducing the time required to create cable assemblies. This is very important in today’s cabling market where time is of the essence and fewer technicians are being asked to maintain more and more equipment. Digital video, computer and network cabling is almost universally crimped today.
  • Crimped connections, done correctly, can be superior to soldered connections.
  • A good crimped connection deforms the metal sufficiently past the yield point, but not too much, so that the “spring back” keeps the connection secure, even under thermal cycling (the coefficient of expansion of the two metals might be different) and vibration.
  • A good crimp connection is gas tight and won’t wick: it is sometimes referred to as a “cold weld”.
  • Like the solder method, it can be used on solid or stranded conductors, and provides a good mechanical and electrical connection.

  • Proprietary solderless aluminium coupling loop. This coupling loop design can be used with any types of coax cable feed-lines. Because of its rigidity, the antenna tuning will remain stable, consistent and will prevent SWR fluctuations due to usual coupling loop deformation.
